Why GTA is actually more of a Car-Guy Game than you think..

As I’m sure we all know, there are Tens of Hundreds of car games out there for all platforms. From games on mobiles to fully fledged racing simulators.  Ones that have a history of being timeless and providing never ending enjoyment.  But what about the one’s that you’d just never imagine being THAT game?

Well, this is one of them. It may have theft in it’s name, and involve a lot of stealing ,killing and just some random stupid behaviour (if you’re me) but it’s a car game at it’s heart. Here’s a few reasons why…

1. Diversity

Okay, yes.  When online with your friends on Forza or Grand Turismo you do see a great variety of cars and players, but you are still limited by the fact that you’re playing a road focused only game.  You maybe have a bigger and more ‘realistic’ range of cars to buy, but due to the game being bound in racing and stats you tend to come across broadly the same kind of cars when playing online.  Whereas with GTA you have people playing from every corner of the globe in much busier sessions, so you do see some crazy stuff. Obviously they have fake names like the notorious Baller being a Range Rover, but you can see which car is obviously being mimicked, plus whereas games like Driveclub (which you could have one if you were subscribed to us) seem to limit you to just one track at a time, however GTA V gives you a whole world to explore.

2. Customisation (One for the Ricers)

Even since Grand Theft Auto has started there has been a nice amount of customisation options for cars.  However, since the release of GTA V it has really expanded and grown, especially over the past 6 months.

And I’m not just talking about new cars and bikes, but also new modifications to particular cars such as ones from Benny’s Originals.  We are now at a point where each individual player can go into more and more detail to express themselves through their car customisations, to being Paul Walker and tuning that car to it’s physical limits, to being that teenager next door who’s a maniacal ricer.

3. Freedom

Not only do you have extensive customisation options, but you also have the freedom of one of the greatest open world maps in a game featuring cars.  Sure, it’s not huge , but you have such an array of beautiful and bizarre locations to drive through, over and across.  From run-down towns to open dirt tracks and mountain trails, you have it all, whereas try and achieve this through purpose built racing games, and you’re gonna have to buy a trolley full of games, like the Dirt franchise for Rallying but Project Cars for track racing…

4. Community

Community.  This is the big one, the reason I love GTA V Online so much.  Sure there are irritating trolls in the occasional game/lobby.  But once you play the game for a little while and get to grips with what you’re doing and who you’re doing it with, you’ll meet some wonderful players who share the same outlook on the game. Cars.

You can talk to each other about cars, buy cars, sell car, show cars, drive cars, love cars and respect cars.  And respect each other.  If you treat people right you can create your own great community, around……..cars.

GTA is a lovely game, that is indisputable, but my article here was to show you guys why as well as being a game where you feel like a total don, it is so much more of a petrolhead game than you think…
