However there have only been a smattering of people online who have talked about the great, pure, original and I guess…..most honest street performance cars out there. The ones that were put together so well in the first place that nobody really ever could or would change a great deal of things on and about the car. I mean sure, a fair few people have taken these cars, picked them up, switched them around, and turned them into something new. Some with different engines too! I saw that someone put the V10 from an E60 M5 into a 1 Series hatch. Mind you, it was actually pretty slow. I think that’s because of the music they were listening to, the engine. In between both banks of cylinders it played a 25 minute keyboard solo. However I think it was because they had to take the front bumper off to fit more cooling and the driver who was supposed to set all the record times was replaced with some guy called Phil.
Here are three frankly brilliant, near perfect cars from the factory.
BMW E46 M3
Ferrari 458 (Spyder)
This will seem like such a lazy thing for a writer to do in this situation. But you see, once I had seen this video I just reverted to it any time I saw a 458, heard a 458 or was with anyone who ever mentioned a 458. It’s such a brilliant piece of automotive journalism. I have a tab open right now with it playing in the background ready for me to copy the web address over and link it in what you’re reading right now so that I can show the world…
I can’t stop re-playing it in the background. Never has it taken me so long to write 94 words.
The First Generation Honda NSX
The Honda NSX. The car made by Honda/Acura that was developed in tandem with Ayrton Senna. More specifically the cars handling and power-train. He wanted built and made a car that was pure and one you could really drive. One that takes a real driver, a driver like him.
It wasn’t overly powerful and it only came with two choices of engine, both V6’s.
One was a 3.0 litre job pushing out around 270bhp and the other was a 3.2 litre block that produced around 290bhp. Sure, even then that wasn’t up there with the bigger, louder and more powerful supercars, but the NSX wasn’t meant to be. Senna helped design this car, and he wasn’t one for fast cars full of tech. He was a man that was about fast drivers with a higher skill level than they thought they had. The kind that would always question “is this the best we can do?” and if the answer was “umm…” or “no” he would immediately better that and push the people and their efforts. And that’s what’s what the NSX is and was. A reflection of those who made it, a reflection of not just Honda’s engineering, but a reflection of Senna.
People say that you are only as good as those who you surround yourself with. Maybe this car, the first, the original NSX is a reflection of that, and a reflection of him. Of Senna.
